Fast-Track your Submission
The best way to tackle the paperwork needed for the Generic Adventure Site Guide qualification is to get it done all at once. Don’t let it drag on. Attend a 2,5day workshop with AsAfrica. We facilitate the work and provide templates for most of what’s needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF THE WORKSHOP?
Your completed Portfolio of Evidence (POE). If you do all the tasks during the 2,5-day session, you should emerge with all your paperwork done for the Generic Adventure Site Guide qualification. We know that the paperwork trips many candidates up.
DO YOU NEED TO HAVE THE SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE FIRST?
No. But you do need it finally to get GASG. You may already hold a certificate in rafting or other skill, along with Wilderness First Aid and a logbook. If so, you can go ahead and be qualified. If not, you can still complete the GASG Portfolio of Evidence (POE) – ie the paperwork – and finish the specialist certificate and other requirements later.
WHAT ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS ARE THERE?
You must get Wilderness First Aid Level 3. You can do it afterwards.
The course is an advanced 5-day event including casualty evacuation
(CASEVAC). It is vital to have this certificate. But you don’t first need it to
attend the workshop.
MUST YOU DO A FIELD ASSESSMENT TOO?
That depends on whether you have already been field assessed for (1) your technical certificate AND (2) for your tourism skills. When you enrol we can search your record and let you know what is required.
DO YOU GET THE GASG CERTIFICATE IMMEDIATELY?
Once you have submitted all necessary documentation, most of which is the paperwork done during the workshop, your assessment is forwarded to our school. The Moderator at AQN looks things over, and if all is in order, you receive an interim certificate. The CATHSSETA certificate is issued when the verifier at the Seta is satisfied that all items are checked. It can take weeks.
WHAT THEN?
Get listed with the provincial tourism Registrar.
We help you in submitting your Cathsseta certificate to Gatour or some other province. You pay R240 (2019) and sign a Code of Ethics, while also providing ID and First Aid. Your Tourist Guide Badge and Card will follow.
